About us

hello@vata-designstudio.com

Vata Design Studio is an architecture and design practice based in Rajasthan, India. The name Vata draws from the Sanskrit word Vatavaran — meaning atmosphere, space or the dialogue between spaces — reflecting our pursuit of creating environments that evoke emotion and meaning.

The studio is driven by a curiosity to explore craftsmanship, materiality and the poetic potential of space. Our work seeks a balance between the bold and the delicate — where structure meets emotion and detail becomes an expression of care. We approach each project as a dialogue between nature, light, form and human experience, creating environments that are grounded, experimental and deeply personal. Through our process, we aim to reveal the beauty in imperfection and the quiet resonance of material and place.

The studio was founded by Harsh Pratap Singh, an Indian architect, and Lea Mancini Singh, a French architect, whose paths first crossed in 2017 at Junya Ishigami + Associates in Japan. Over the past decade, they have travelled and worked across Asia and Europe, contributing to internationally acclaimed practices such as Kengo Kuma & Associates (Japan), RCR Arquitectes (Spain), Vo Trong Nghia Architects (Vietnam), Abari Earth (Nepal), Exploration Architecture (France) and Jakob + MacFarlane (France). Their journey — shaped by diverse landscapes, cultures, and disciplines — eventually led them to establish Vata Design Studio as a shared pursuit of ideas. It is an evolving platform where architecture converges with furniture, ceramics, lighting and textiles — a space to experiment, build and rediscover what design can mean in today’s context.

Vata Design Studio engages with projects across a wide spectrum — from boutique resorts and high-end residences to low-cost housing, public welfare projects, museums, galleries, schools, restaurants, cafés, artist collaborations and experimental installations. The studio also designs bespoke furniture, ceramics and lighting pieces as an extension of its architectural inquiry. Across scales and typologies, our intent remains constant: to craft spaces that evoke emotion, celebrate craftsmanship and embody a timeless sense of beauty and integrity.
